Irish clubs ruled on Day 2 of the World Championships

Day 2 of the World championships was certainly hugely sucessful for the Irish clubs. First competition of the day was the 640kg open club. Clonmany and Mountain View competed in this. But it was the Mountain View men that were very clearly the dominant team in this competition. They reached they reached the semifinal stages where they met Monnickendam of Netherlands. They powered on, claiming their spot in the final in 2 straight ends, where they would meet Deinum Britsum of Netherlands . Monnickendam went on to claim the bronze.

The final was a tougher battle, but Mountain View held their nerve and were clearly the stronger team. They claimed the gold and the 640kg Open Club World Champions title. Click the following link to watch the 1st end of the final: Click the following link to watch the 2nd end of the final:

The 600kg open club was the next competition. And it certainly did not disappoint. Moutain View, Clonmany and Clonmany B were competing in this, and all the Irish Teams were a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately Clonmany just missed out on reaching the semifinals coming 3rd in their group. Mountain View and Clonmany B reached the semifinals. Clonmany B met Ibarra of the Basque Country, but it was very clear that Clonmany B were the stronger team here and went on to win their place in the final in style. Mountain View met Beti Gazte of the Basque Country in their semi final. Again, they were clearly the stronger team and claimed the 2nd spot in the final. At World level, it is such a huge achievement to have 2 Irish clubs in the final, and the home crowd showed their appreciation of this fact and created a fantastic atmosphere for the final.

The 2 teams met on the mats for a repeat final of the Nationals held only weeks previously. The atmosphere was electric. But as with the National final, the Clonmany B team were extremely strong. And despite Mountain Views best efforts, the Donegal men were unstoppable. Clomany B powered on to claim gold, and the title of 600kg open club World Champions.
