Medals for the Irish on day one of the open club World Championships.

The World Championship started today with the open club championships. First competition for an Irish club was the 680kg Mens. The Mountain View men were competing, and after initially dropping a few points at the start got stronger as the competition went on. They made it through to the semi finals where they met Cornhill of Scotland. Unfortunately the Scottish men proved too strong for them, winning them in 2 straight ends. Cornhill eventually went on to take gold. In the fight for the bronze, Mountain View met Chinese Taipei. The Mountain View men powered on to claim victory and the bronze medal in 2 straight ends. Congratulations!!!

Next up for the Irish teams was the 560kg mens competition. Mountain View, Clonmany & Clonmany B were in this. At the end of the round robin it was the Clonmany B men that topped their group and went into the semi finals. Here they met Ibarra. The Donegal men proved too strong for them and powered on to win a place in the final in 2 straight ends. Ibarra went on to take the bronze. In the final they met old rivals from Northern Ireland, Country Club. This was always going to be a tough battle. The Clonmany B men gave it all they had but lost out to Country club. Congratulations to Clonmany B on a very hard earned silver!!
