Irish Tug of War schools
Exciting Times Ahead!!!!! The Irish Tug of War Association has been allocated €20,000 by Sport Ireland from the dormant accounts funds to run a Transition year Tug of War program in 2019
A big big thank you! To all our partners for coming on board to help us drive this wonderful initiative ahead, Wicklow Sports Partnership, Cork Sports Partnership, Cavan Sports Partnership, Donegal Sports Partnership and South County Dublin Partnership
We will be running a training day for Transition year students from 2 post primary schools in each of the above counties and equipping them with the basic skills of tug of war, they will work with the 1st year students in the school for a 6 week period running mini blitzes in PE time, then the coach will return and assess the students and full scale Blitz will be held after where the schools will come and compete against each other.
Highlights of 2018
This was our busiest year to date with our school program me we visited 130 schools in 2018 9,000 new children were introduced to the sport of Tug of war. We ran 4 Blitz Days in conjunction with Cork Sports Partnership (400) students, Cavan Sports Partnership (200) students, and Wicklow sports Partnership 2 days (400) students. We have a blitz Days penciled in for February 19 in Conjunction with Monaghan and Laois sports Partnerships.
Community Coaching: Cork,Wicklow and Cavan Sports Partnerships ran Community Coaching courses in 2018, Tug of War was one of the many Sports that was on offer to the participants. 27 community coaches have been trained in the 3 different counties.
12 Teachers from schools in South County Dublin were recently trained to deliver tug of war to the students of their school. This was supported by South Dublin Sports Partnership.
A Huge Thank you to all the sports partnerships for working with the I.T.O.W.A. Without their help, our School program would not be successful. And also our Schools Development officers who have covered 22 counties throughout the country delivering Tug of war in schools
