St. Pats were very strong out of the blocks at the 1st Indoor National of the season in Longford on Sunday. Benefiting from a longer pre-season than most of the competition, they already look like the team to beat for the rest of the year. They comfortably took Gold in the Senior 720kg, as well as having 2 teams in the final of the 5-a-side. Rockies meanwhile took the Division 2 title in their 1st competition since the club reformed, beating host club GnaC into second.
7 clubs competed on the day – Mountain View, GnaC, Clonmany A, Clonmany B, St. Pats, Carndonagh and Rockies.
The Senior semi final lineup saw St. Pats beat Cardonagh in straight ends. In the other semi final, Clonmany A, also back after a break from the sport, overturned the group stage result, to defeat Mountain View A in straight ends and progress to the final.
The Bronze medal decider was a close affair with Mountain View A eventually coming out on top after 3 ends against Carndonagh.
St. Pats successfully defended the 720kg title for the 3rd time, after a straight forward victory over Clonmany A in the Senior final. But it was still a medal winning return to action for Clonmany A, who host the next round in the National Indoor Series in Buncranna.
In the days 2nd event, the 5-a-side 450kg Competition, 9 teams took part in one round robin group, with St.Pats topping the group again, on maximum points.
In the first semi final, St. Pats A defeated Clonmany B in straight ends. While in the second semi final, St. Pats B came out on top against Clonmany, to set up 2 derby matches for the medals.
In the all Pats final, it was St. Pats A who won out against their Kerry clubmates in straight ends, in a time of 2 minutes 2 seconds and 1 minute 31.
Thanks to Maureen Geary for the scores.
