Double Gold for Mountain View
Mountain Views fantastic season continued last Sunday at the 60th Annual Arva Show, when the club won both the National 600kg Championship and Open 680kg event. In doing so, they have become the only team to win multiple National Championships this year. With only 1 round of the National Outdoor Series left, Mountain View are on course to finish 2017 as the top outdoor club. GnaC won the clubs 1st outdoor title when they defeated Loughmore in the Novice final.
The 2nd round of the open youths league competition was contested by Ballinagh, GnaC, the Grove and Ballinastoe. The Grove came out on top of this round, ahead of Ballinagh, GnaC and Ballinastoe. That leaves The Grove sitting clear on top of the youth league, followed by Ballinagh and GnaC tied for 2nd.
8 clubs took part in the 600kg competition. Mountain View, The Mighty Oaks, Ballinagh, The Shop, Loughmore, Donoughmore, GnaC and Ballinastoe.
After the round robin, Mountain View topped the group, followed by Ballinastoe in 2nd. Both clubs finished on 19 points and were only separated by head to head results. The Shop were next on 15 points and Donoughmore completed the semi final line up, finishing 4th on 13 points. The weather on the day was poor and a big choice of ground made it more difficult for teams to pull up hill. Both Mountain View and Ballinastoe progressed to their 2nd senior final of the season, but only after both semi finals went to 3 ends. As teams struggled for good footing, the pulls were relatively short.
The 3rd place pull-off was another 3 ended contest, with The Shop coming out on top to claim their second Championship Bronze medal of the year along with their 560kg Gold.
In a repeat of the 700kg final, Mountain View defeated Ballinastoe in straight ends, winning in a time of 2 minutes 16 and 2 minutes 24. The teams were closely matched, but Ballinastoe, still a Division 2 club, struggled to get momentum in the conditions. For Mountain View, it’s a second ever Senior Championship title and they have hit peak form at the perfect time.
GnaC made the 600kg Novice final for the 2nd year running, having lost out to Ballinastoe last year. This year they were facing Loughmore, with the Tipperary team looking to add to the 580kg Gold medal they won in Clonakilty. It was not to be though, as GnaC went one step further than last year to claim their 1st ever Outdoor title, winning in straight ends.
The second event of the day was the Open 680kg competition. 6 teams entered. They were Loughmore, The Mighty Oaks, Mountain View, Ballinastoe, The Shop and Donoughmore. Like the previous competition, this also finished tied at the top of the group, with Mountain View again coming out on top on head to head results, ahead of Donoughmore. The round robin was very competitive and it also took head to head results to separate The Shop and Ballinastoe for 3rd and 4th, with both clubs finishing on 9 points. In the end it was Ballinastoe who finished 3rd and went on to meet Donoughmore in the semi final where they came out on top after 3 ends. The 2nd semi final was another 3 ends but Mountain View came through to the final.
The line-up of the medal pulls was a repeat of the earlier 600kg and so was the outcome. This time The Shop managed to defeat Donoughmore in straight ends to take the bronze medal.
A ruthless Mountain View maintained their 100% record in finals this year, when they defeated Ballinastoe in straight ends.
