Killenaule end great season with 580kg victory

The clubs who attended the national championship held at the Tullow show were Ballinastoe, Boley, Burren, Errill Valley, Glenhill, G&B, Killenaule, Kiltevna, Lakehill, Loughmore, Rathdowney, Rathkeale, Rockies and the Shop. Five teams competed in the 580kg novice championship.

The clubs who qualified for the semi finals were Ballinastoe, Killenaule, Loughmore and Rathkeale. Killenaule overcame Rathkeale in the first semi final as Ballinastoe defeated Loughmore in the second semi final, both in straight ends. This left a final between Ballinastoe and Killenaule. This was a great pull as there was very little between the two teams. Ballinastoe took the first end but Killenaule hit back and took the second and third ends  to take the title, this now being their sixth gold medal of the season in the novice section. Loughmore overcame Rathkeale to win the bronze medal.

The three teams who competed in the men’s 375kg of 5 aside were Rockies, Rathkeale, and Rathdowney. The teams to get into the final were Rockies and Rathkeale. This was a great final where there was little between the two teams, the Rockies proved to be the stronger and took it in two straight ends after a tough battle. Three teams competed in the ladies 520kg event, they were Ballinastoe, Rathdowney, & Kiltevna. There were some great pulling here with very little between the three teams. Kiltevna proved to be the stronger and came out tops to take the gold medal, Rathdowney took the silver medal.

Kiltevna also pulled well in the final round of the ladies 375kg league as four teams competed in this event. The Galway team took the maximum 7 points on offer but had to contend with the silver medal overall. Ballinastoe picked up 6 points on the day to take the overall gold medal. Errill Valley won the overall bronze medal. Six team competed in the men’s 680kg open event. G&B defeated Lakehill in the first semi final as Boley defeated the Shop in the other semi final. The final between G&B and Boley was a great contest which went to three ends with G&B eventually winning the deciding pull.

Seven team competed in the 600kg open event and the final was a repeat of the 680kg final with Boley facing G&B. Boley got the upper hand on this occasion and won the competition with a straight end victory.
