The Mountain View club hosted the national indoor 640kg championship in Lordship, Co. Louth yesterday. The clubs who attended were Ballinagh, Baile Ghib, Clonmany, Cuan Rithe, GnaC Valley, Kiltevna, Maharees, Mountain View, St. Pats, Stapeltons, Taughmaconnell & Rathkeale.
The semi final line-up in the 640kg senior competition was St. Pats versus Cuan Rithe and Clonmany B versus Mountain View. Pats easily overcame the Cork outfit as expected but the other semi between Clonmany and the hosting team was a very even and entertaining match-up. Clonmany B dug deep and showed great determination to win the contest in straight ends to join St. Pats in the final. St. Pats were the superior team in the final and they pulled their way to their third title in a row defeating the reigning champions in straight ends to take the gold medal. Mountain View defeated Cuan Rithe to win the bronze medal.
There was tough semi final clash in Div 2 between Cuan Rithe and GnaC Valley with the Cork outfit eventually coming through in the third end decider. They were joined in the final by neighbors Maharees who overcame Stapeltons in straight ends. The final was another exciting contest with the Kerry team taking the first end but Cuan Rithe responded with great determination to take the second and third ends to win the gold medal and their second national title of the season.
Five teams competed in the 640kg novice competition. Taughmaconnell defeated Baile Ghib in the first semi final with Maharees overcoming Rathkeale in the other semi. Taughmaconnell the Roscomman based team were going for their third title of the season but it was not to be as Maharees produced a fine display to win the gold medal with a straight end victory. Rathkeale defeated Balie Ghib to win the bronze medal.
Both the ladies 375kg and 405kg leagues reached their conclusion in Lordship with the destination of the medals already decided after the first two rounds. The strong St. Pats team in their first season out continued their fine form with two fine performances to yet again take the 7 points rounding off both leagues with a maximum 21 points in each. Kiltevna from Co. galway had to settle for the silver medals overall.
Ten teams took part in the first round of the men’s 425kg 5-a-side league. There was some good pulling in this event especially between the top three teams. Clonmany B produced a fine performance to finish top after round one taking the 7 points. Mountain View were runners-up and they take 6 points. St. Pats who were third take 5 points.
