680kg bronze medal for Lakehill in Assen

The men’s 680kg got underway in Assen this morning, Underfoot conditions are a little soft resulting in long pulls. 31 teams competed in four groups.

Boley were drawn in a tough group and they did well to defeat Veenseboys to qualify for the quarter final in second place behind Heure. Boley went on to face Ebersecken in the quarter final but the Swiss team were too strong and Boley bowed out. Lakehill recovered well from a shaky start to finish joint top of their group to qualify for the quarter final. In the quarters they met Bison from the Netherlands and pulled them very impressively to qualify for the semi finals. Lakehill put up a good challenge against Heure in the semi finals but it was the Dutch team who progressed to the final. This left Lakehill in a third place decider with Vorden from the Netherlands and it was the Irish who went on to win the bronze medal with a straight end victory. The invincible Ebersecken who weighed in at 647kg went on to win the gold medal with a straight end victory.

In the afternoon Boyneside pulled in the mixed 4×4 600kg competition and picked up 3 points in their group. Gaztedi from the Basque country defeated Koapman from the Netherlands to win the gold medal.

Glenhill pulled in the men’s 560kg competition and picked up 5 points in their group. Bancran from Co. Derry pulled very well in the 560kg competition getting all the way to the final where they met Engelberg from Switzerland. Engelberg went on to win the gold medal.
