Round-up from Appenzell
It’s Monday morning in Appenzell and most of the competitors are preparing to go home. What a wonderful well run championship it has been and a big congratulations goes out to the organising committee. It has also been a great championship from an Irish point of view with many highlights. World Games qualification has been secured at both 640kg and 700kg. We had the coming of age of the Lakehill club with their 700kg based team winning both the open an closed championship without loosing a single end. We saw the character of the Boley club as their 640kg based team produced an outstanding display to win the silver at 640kg after their disappointment at 580kg. We saw another outstanding display from the legendary James Kehoe who claimed his 7th International gold medal in 6 years as he travels home with 2 gold and 1 silver medal. Perhaps the biggest talking point is the fairytale story of the legendary John “the Greek” Coyle who made his comeback to Tug of War after 11 years and travels home today with two gold medals having pulled in 38 ends unbeaten. Safe travelling to all as they go back home.
