Pat O’Connor from Saltmills who passed away last March pictured with the Boley team, Sept 1977, after winning their first international open club 640kg championship. Pat was a member of An Garda Siochana which he joined in 1955, was a member of the very successful Coolock tug of war team of the seventies & early eighties before joining the equally successful Midlanders team of the eighties. Pat was a very fit man for his size and was never late for any competition. He retired from the guards in 1994, he was stationed in Raheny. We extend our deepest sympathy to all his family & friends – from the Boley Tug of War club.

  1. My deepest sympathy to Pat’s family & friends, I knew Pat well and admired him for being a great anchorman at that time being with the Coolock Team & also with the Midlanders Team, I pulled against him on several occasions & over several years.
    May he rest in peace.

  2. I just came across this article about my Dad in the last few days as it was his anniversary. Thank you for the article and for the kind words from the respondents. We all spent many a Sunday throughout the country at various competitions throughout the 70’s and 80’s when he was competing eating ham sandwiches and drinking flasks of tea out of the boot of the car.
