The ITOWA youth development squad traveled to Daventry, England last weekend to take part in the Great Ormand st charity competition. The Eire Og lads performed very well winning silver in the 520kilo event and a second silver in the 560kilo event.
The 560kilo was the toughest competition they had in England for the last three years with nine teams entered including a very strong Sandhurst team and a very experienced Bedford ladies. They started nervously dropping a couple of points loosing 2-1 to Sandhurst. After a few positional changes they settled down to pull extremly well taking full points from the remaining pulls finishing on 21 points just 2 behind Sandhurst.
There were eight teams entered in the 520kilo event with Eire Og making three changes from the 560kilo team. Again the lads pulled very well loosing only to Sandhurst who just edged them in experience. Sandhurst finished the competition on maximum points with Eire Og in second place with 18 points. With all of the development squad except for two under the age of 17 we have a great scope to build for the Europeans in Minehead in 2011.
