Ballinagh, Co. Cavan was the venue for yesterday’s Ulster open competition which was held in glorious weather conditions at the local community field. There were four competitions contested on the day; 600kg & 680kg novice and 600kg & 680kg senior.
The clubs who attended were Ballinagh, Rocky’s, Coneel, Boyneside, Fallons, Bremore, Killylough, Lakehill, Gortletteragh, St. Pat’s, Ferrywater and Leo’s Boys. There was intense competition in both of the novice events with a number of newly affiliated clubs taking part. Host club Ballinagh and Coneel from Co. Carlow qulaified for the final of the 680kg novice with Ballinagh winning in straight ends. Six teams entered the 600kg novice competition, the line-up for the semi finals was Bremore versus Ballinagh and Rocky’s versus Boyneside. Both of the semi finals went to third ends but it was Cavan rivals Ballinagh and Rocky’s who went through to the final. Ballinagh who were cheered on by their noisy home support all day produced another fine performance to overcome their local rivals to win their second title of the day rounding off a great day for the club.
