The second round of the Munster Indoor Championship took place on Friday night last at Ballyduff, Co. Waterford. See report below thanks to Pat Lee. There were two 5-a-side weight categories contested on the night, 450kg & catchweight.
Four teams competed in the 450kg event, Ballyhooley A & B, Glenhill & Fermoy. Ballyhooley A and Fermoy qualified for the final. Fermoy’s experience won out in the end to take the title. The winning Fermoy team were D O’Flynn, J Rice, C Twomey, E Hales, A Needham and coach T Ahern. Six teams competed in the catchweight competition, Ballyhooley A & B, Glenhill, Cappoquin, Fermoy, and the Harps. After some tuff pulling the semi final line-up was Cappoquin versus Glenhill and Fermoy versus Ballyhooley A. The teams who qualified for the final were Glenhill and Fermoy. This was an excellent final with two heavyweights doing battle.
Once again Fermoy proved the more experienced team and despite Glenhill’s strong performance in both ends it was Fermoy who took the catchweight title, their second title of the evening. The winning Fermoy team were, D O’Flynn, J Rice, E Hales, A Neefham, T Ahern, coach was C Twomey. The judge on the night was Michael Carroll, scorekeeper and controller were Pat Lee & Denis Dunlea. Michael Carroll, President of the Munster Board presented the medals. The next Munster meeting will take place on Friday night the 23rd of January at the same venue and the weights to be contested are 425kg & catchweight 5-a-side. A charity fundraising pull is being organised by the Fermoy club for Friday night the 9th January in Fermoy, a venue is yet to be decided.
