Bremore dominate Day one of National Indoors

The National Indoor Championships kicked off yesterday in St. Partick’s GAA hall, Lordship, Co. Louth. The teams who competed were, Bremore, Gortletteragh, Clonmany, St. Pats, Lakehill, Rathanna, Cockhill, Scruffy Murphys, Rocky’s, Urnaidhe, Sportsmen ladies and Woodland ladies.

The event saw the introduction of the 5-a-side championships which will run on a trail basis for the duration of the indoor season. Nine teams entered the senior 425kg 5-a-side competition. This event was run in one group so there was intense competition for the top two positions and a place in the final. Bremore A from Dublin pulled very well to top the group with maximum points. They were joined in the final by Gortletteragh from Leitrim with Bremore B and Lakehill just missing out on a place in the final. Bremore A continued their fine form to win the Gold medals and the national 425kg 5-a-side title.

Six teams took part in the 400kg 5-a-side U23 competition. The St. Pats team from Co. Louth pulled strongly in this event finishing top of the group without loosing a single point. There was a close battle for second place between Bremore and Scruffy Murphys from Donegal with Bremore just edging the pull to beat the Donegal team for the final position. Rivals Bremore and St. Pats faced each other in the final. St. Pats produced an excellent performance to beat the Dublin team to win the Gold medals and the national title at U23.

The teams who qualified for the senior 720kg semi finals were Bremore, St. Pats, Gortletteragh and Rathanna from Carlow. Bremore easily defeated St. Pats in the first semi final while Gortletteragh pulled well to overcome Rathanna for a place in the final. St. Pats defeated Rathanna to win the bronze medal. The final between Bremore and Gortletteragh was a close contest but the Dublin team again proved too strong for the men from Leitrim winning the Gold medals and the national 720kg title.

Newly formed ladies teams Sportsmen from Louth and Woodlands from Co. Carlow kicked off the ladies league competition which will run over the three Sundays of the championships. The contest was run in the best of five ends with the Woodlands ladies from Carlow proving too strong for the Sportsmen ladies winning by three ends to nil. The Association would like to congradulate both teams for their efforts and encourage more clubs to enter ladies teams in the league.

Newly affiliated clubs Rocky’s from Cavan and Urnaidhe from Carlow competed in the 400kg 5-a-side U19 competition. Bremore and Rocky’s qualified for the final. Bremore produced another powerful display to round off and excellent day for the Dublin team winning three of the four national titles up for grabs.
