Ten teams took part in the 375kg senior 5-a-side championship. The competition was run in one group with only two teams progressing to the final. There were some good even contests in this competition with new Donegal teams Dungloe and Cockhill producing some fine performances. However it was the Bremore team from Dublin who continued thier outstanding form from day one in Louth as both their teams finished in the top two positons thus qualifing for the final. Gortletteragh and Cockhill finished joint third. Bremore A defeated Bremore B to win the gold medals and the national title at 375kg.

The championship saw the introduction of the novice competition at indoor level and the competition proved to be a great success and an opportinity for the up and coming pullers to compete at national level. St. Pats and Bremore novice teams qualified for the final with local team Dungloe just missing out in third place. The final was an exciting contest but it was the St. Pats lads who produced a fine display to win the ntional novice title.

The teams who qualified for the semi finals of the senior 640kg competition were Bremore, Gortletteragh, St. Pats and the reigning world champions at this weight, Clonmany B. Bremore defeated Gortletteragh in the first semi final while Clonmany B defeated St. Pats to set up a mouth watering finale. The final was an excellent contest with a great atmosphere in St. Brigits hall for the showdown. Despite Clonmany’s gutsy performance the world champions fell to the sword of the mighty Bremore team who won thier fourth national title from four championships at senior level.  Gortletteragh defeated St. Pats to win the bronze medals.

Urnaidhe, U19 375kg 5-a-side runners-up

Three teams took part in the U19 375kg competition. St. Pats and Urnaidhe from Co. Carlow qualified for the final with Cockhill the local team just missing out. St. Pats proved a little too strong for Urnaidhe to take the title but the Carlow lads were nonetheless delighted with heir first ever national medal.

The two teams who qualified for the final of the U23 375kg competition were Bremore and St. Pats which was a repeat of the 425kg final a fortnight ago in Louth. Yet again it was the young team of St. Pats who produced the goods to win the national title, the clubs fourth gold medal of the day. The national championships will finish up in Cooley Co. Louth on the 18th of Janurary, where the 600kg & 680kg senior titles are up for grabs. The question is can anyone stop Bremore from making it a clean sweep of national senior titles.
