Cappoquin Tug of War club

Last Season’s Highlights

Irish teams enjoyed a lot of success at International level last season winning many medals for both club and country at both indoor and outdoor competition.

The highlight of the indoor season was Clonmany’s terrific performance at the World Championships in Faenza Italy winning the Gold medal in the senior men’s 640kilo. The highlight of the outdoor season was Ireland’s success at 640kg winning the Gold medal at the European Championships in Minehead England. Click here to watch the final of that competition where we defeated England ending a twelve year drought at 640kg level.

Boley International Tournament

Boley Tug of War Current European 680kg champions Boley from Co. Wexford are hosting an International Tug of War Tournament on Sunday the 20th of July this year.

GENSB games trials this Sunday

The trails for the 2008 GENSB games squad are taking place this coming Sunday the 29th of June at 12:15 at the Morton Stadium. For more information check out our youths page

Primary School’s Project

Pupilof St. Mary\'s B.N.S.A number of Tug of War Development days are currently taking place at the Morton Stadium in Santry aimed at introducing the sport to Primary School Children. Over 200 students are taking part from various primary school’s in the Dublin city and county areas. We hope to expand our development plan to other counties in 2009. Entry for World Championship in Sweden

The online accreditation and TWIF Clubs entry system for the upcoming World Outdoor Championship in Sweden has been activated. Clubs can be entered for the various open club competitions at the following link

Pullers and officials that have previously accredited for last year’s European Championships in Minehead or this year’s World Indoor Championships in Faenza can search for their information and update it if need be. Just click to be accredited for Sweden. New clubs in the medals in Caherlistrane

Lavalley 720kg team

The national sheep shearing championship in Caherlistrane Co. Galway yesterday played host to a very successful open Tug of War competition. The large crowd at the festival enjoyed a fine spectacle of Tug of War in glorious weather conditions. Special guest at the championships, IFA president Padraig Walshe presented the medals to the winning teams.

The recently affiliated Lavalley club (above) from Ballinrobe Co. Mayo performed excellently winning the silver medal in the novice catchweight and in the senior 720kg.  The up-and-coming Hamrocks club (shown here on the right) who are based in Brideswell Co. Roscomman were very strong in the novice catchweight winning the gold medal with some fine pulling. In the final they came up against Lavalley and proved too strong for the Ballinrobe outfit winning both ends in fine style. The Hamrocks club are planning to affiliate to the Irish Association in time for the national outdoor championships which kick-off in July.
